Whether you’re a seasoned self storage pro or trying it out for the first time, it’s important to ask yourself some basic questions to understand your specific storage needs. Even having a basic understanding of your storage needs can go a long way towards finding the perfect unit for you. Here are the most common questions our renters should ask themselves before renting, with well-researched answers from the experts at Storage Choice.
A valid driver’s license or state-issued ID is all that is required when renting a unit from Storage Choice. You can rent right online, receive a gate code, and move in today!
Unlike other storage facilities, Storage Choice does not require customers to purchase insurance for their storage units. However, we do highly recommend purchasing insurance as a way to ensure your belongings are protected against theft or damage, and we make it as easy as possible to get started by offering the first month of Storage Choice tenant insurance FREE for all new customers.
Basic policies start at just $9/month, and you can cancel at any time. Visit our insurance page for more information.
In case you forgot to buy a lock for your storage unit, we do offer locks for purchase at each of our storage facilities. Occasionally, we will give away free disc locks to new rental customers as part of a move-in promotion, so be sure to ask your Storage Choice representative about this deal!
Storage Choice does not want a copy of your key. However, you may do so if you would like us to accept deliveries to your storage unit on behalf of you or your business. Contact your facility manager today for more information about this free service.
Most, but not all, of our storage facilities provide use of a Storage Choice moving truck free at move-in. Be sure to ask the storage manager if this option is available at your preferred location.
Most of our facilities have free-to-use flatbed dollies on-site for all of our storage customers. We also allow our customers to rent a large appliance dolly for use in moving refrigerators, washers, dryers, and other big household items off-site.
If you are storing valuable or sensitive items such as paper documents, fur clothing, electronics, computer equipment, appliances or family heirlooms, you should consider making use of a climate-controlled unit. Storage Choice offers these units at most of our facilities, and they provide extra protection from extreme temperatures, humidity, and dust.
This is perhaps the most typical reason for using a self storage unit. Why allow your huge winter coats to clog up your closet space during the middle of July? And do you really need to keep your swimming pool equipment and patio furniture handy during the winter? With your own private storage space, you can fill it with whatever you wish, swapping out items as you see fit. Storage Choice provides easy access to your unit within convenient access hours.
To ensure that we meet each of our customers’ unique storage needs, all of our rental contracts are on a month-to-month basis. This allows you to rent a storage unit for as little or as long as you need without being locked into any long-term contracts.
Self storage is all about allowing you to store your items on your terms. But you should be aware that not all storage facilities will allow you access to your unit any given time of the day or night. For example, while we offer 24-hour access to our commercial customers, other units will have limited access during specified (but extensive) hours.
Self storage can be a great option for storing vehicles instead of letting them crowd your driveway. At Storage Choice, we offer both outdoor parking as well as spacious enclosed units to house things like boats and other vehicles that you’d prefer to keep out of the elements. Before you select a unit, though, it’s always important to make sure you measure the items or vehicles you plan to store so you can ensure you’ve got enough space. For example, make sure you measure your trailer from tip to end of the boat. Unless you’d prefer to saw off the back of your boat to make it fit!
The standard fee for making a late payment is $15. If you find that making payments on-time is an issue, we suggest enrolling in automatic billing with Storage Choice. This way, you’re billed at the same time each month, and you don’t need to keep track of all those due dates. We accept credit, debit and ACH recurring payments. You can do everything from reserve a unit to pay your bill, all on your schedule. You can also pay online!
Because we offer flexible month-to-month leases, moving in and out of your storage unit is as easy and convenient as possible. We do ask for a 10-day notice before your move-out date.
This might be the most important question you should ask yourself before renting. Things like video recording, proper fencing and lighting, and having a manager on-site go a long way to giving you the peace of mind you’re looking for. All of these measures are standard at every Storage Choice facility.
