Storage Auctions Dates for June
Most everyone loves a good treasure hunt, and that’s part of the appeal of storage auctions! Part treasure hunt, part mystery game, storage auctions are conducted when items in self storage units are left abandoned by renters who fail to make their rental payments. These auction events are advertised through a legal notice in the newspaper, and are open to the general public. Some people attend these auctions to find items to resell, while others simply find them a good way to cheaply furnish their homes.
Here’s how storage auctions work. Bidders arrive about fifteen minutes before the scheduled start time, to sign in and receive their assigned number. Each bidder must have a photo ID, be prepared to pay in cash, and sign a form agreeing to the terms and conditions of the auction. Storage units are kept closed until just before bidding begins. Often, items are packed into boxes, so that it is difficult to know what is actually inside the unit—and that’s where the mystery comes in! The fun begins when the auctioneer starts the bidding, and bidders begin to indicate their bids by waving their numbers in the air.
You never know what you might find at storage auctions! From furniture and appliances, to cars, trucks, and boats, to clothing, jewelry, and knickknacks, there is seemingly no limit to the possibilities of what lies behind those rolling doors. Once a buyer has won an auction, there is a certain amount of time allotted to claim the merchandise. The buyer is responsible for clearing out all the property and debris from the unit, and sweeping it clean.
If you’re ready to take the plunge and experience first-hand the excitement of storage auctions, Storage Choice has four auctions scheduled in June:
- June 27 – W. Airport location in Houston, at 10 a.m.
- June 27 – Stafford location in Houston, at 12 noon
- June 27 – Sugar Land location, 2 p.m.
- June 28 – Clear Lake location, 10 a.m.
You might be reluctant to participate in a storage auction, feeling that it takes advantage of disadvantaged renters who default on a payment. Worry no more! Storage auctions can be cancelled, up until the last minute, by renters who return to pay their bills and claim their personal goods. Even if a renter doesn’t make it in time, there is still the opportunity to bid, and win the items back that way.
