Upcycle Pallets for Household StoragePosted on
We love having one of our facilities located in beautiful Cedar Hill, Texas. We strive to help our renters out in any way we can, too – even when it comes to DIY projects.
Since self storage is kind of our thing, we love when DIY and storage collide. For example, by placing your items on top of wooden pallets when in storage, you’re allowing for better air circulation. However, pallets do more than that, and we want to share with you some of our favorite upcycles.
Take Them in Twos
Cut your pallet so each section only has two slats. Imagine the bottom side of the pallet against the wall, and add some sort of bottom to the structure. You’ve now created a mini shelf great for storing smaller items or towels. The shelves look great in groups of three, so be sure to keep your leftover pallet.
Paint your shelves white for a clean country look, or go bright and bold to add a pop of style.
Save yourself some space by using a pallet to create a rack to hold your kitchen’s pots and pans. This one is easy too, all you need to do is make sur the pallet is securely attached to the wall or ceiling. Next drill some hooks into the pallet. From there you are free to hang pots, pans, or utensils up and out of the way.
For a natural touch in your kitchen, keep the wood natural or stain it with a color of your choice.
Show Some Style
You can never have too much storage when it comes to your home. This project will add some wall storage that can hold anything like hats, gloves, jackets, umbrellas, etc. Cut your pallet to appropriately fit the space you are working with. Now depending on what the color scheme of your room is, the next step is up to you. Pick out a different color for each separate slat. We love using bright colors to make a bold statement piece but a variety of neutrals also has a great and more subtle approach.
Next, pick out a variety of hooks and place them all over the slats. They don’t have to be symmetrical or identical, adding variety will give the piece some character. Check out your local home improvement store to see what your options are.
So whether you purchase pallets to add some airflow to your storage space and have some leftover, or maybe your neighbor has had some lying around – don’t let them go to waste.
